Way of the warrior 1

Written by Michelle. Below is her story and the discipline it took to put her on a better path.

I was 33 when I went back to school. At that time I had an 8th grade education. I emancipated myself when I was 15 because my home life was violent and unstable. I spent the next 18 years doing life, making mistakes, trying to find my way. And then I met my husband Christopher who was a brilliant academia. He inspired me to go back to school and get a GED. At that time, I was working as a hairstylist full-time and learning how to learn in an academic setting took a lot of discipline and  support which I got from Christopher. By the time I was 44 I had not only received my GED but also a Bachelor’s degree in Women Studies and a Masters in Library science. That degree was hard won and I never take it for granted. I have absolutely no regrets in taking that journey no matter how hard it was, how long it took, and how incredibly dumb I felt at times, because it changed my outlook on life in so many ways. It changed my inner landscape from seeing the world from a myopic lens to a much broader scope of the world around me.
